Task: prepare notes for and participate in a group discussion on the topic below. Number of students: 3-5; duration of discussion: 15-25 minutes depending on group size (to be confirmed by your tutor).

To what extent should immigration levels be capped or reduced? How can governments ensure immigration has a positive impact on local economies and cultures?

Important Information:
You may have notes with you during the discussion, but you should not read directly from them; you must be able to speak independently of your notes. You do not have to reach a group consensus (agreement) at the end of the discussion, but you should listen and respond to other students’ point of view. Your group must continue the discussion for 15-25 minutes without help from your tutor.

of the other students and responding accordingly

ability to take equal turns (including bringing other participants into the discussion) and use of turn-taking language.

Each group member will be assessed individually.
You will lose marks if you dominate the discussion without attempting to involve
the other participants; you should try to take equal turns.
If you are late for this oral assessment, then you will not be allowed into the
assessment venue; you will be recorded as absent and awarded zero for the assessment.
