Details of the task
Choose three out of five provided for you articles, correctly reference each article using APA 6th style and present those references as headings for your summaries.
Use examples from APA 6th referencing guide and check if your headings comply with the APA 6th style (see Assessment 1 example)
A summary of an academic article is a well-written, fully formed, coherent text that bears an accurate relationship to its original, presenting it in a much briefer form.
You will be assessed on your ability to capture essential (main) ideas and main line of reasoning of the article, leaving the redundant information out; to make connections between the identified ideas; not to offer your own opinions; and to produce a concise, coherent, well written (grammar, spelling and expressions) in your own words document. Please review the assessment criteria in the marking rubric.
Because you are required to produce a summary, you must not include in-text references or the reference page. Your assignment will be 4 pages long: title page as the first page, followed by three (3) summaries – one per page (refer to the example in VU Collaborate).
Each summary should be 300-400 words in length and must not exceed 1100 words in total. The total word count does not include title page or headings. Please observe the assignment word limit as word count that exceeds or is below the word limit may attract a penalty. A 10% word count outside of the specified word limit is generally accepted however, you will be penalised at the rate of 5 marks for every further 10% outside the limit.
Formatting your assignment: File type – Word document; use size 12 font (Arial or Calibri); font colour black; 1.5 or 2.0 line spacing. Please do not embellish your assignments with pictures and/or borders.
You must also include a title page (refer to the example in VU Collaborate).
