In this assignment, you will be using the following assessment tools with your designated person. (I was thinking of using a boy named Jimmy who is 12 years of age or if you want to create your own).
The following assessments may need to be collected in more than one sitting. However, you MUST be present when they make these drawings. Do not just give this to them to draw to give back. As discussed in class, you must write down all the procedures that you ask your person to complete, how you said it and what was said back to you, put in quotations. These can be written on the back side of the paper, like you would do in a real assessment. 
After the drawings are complete, write up a thorough mock PROGRESS NOTE ( 1 page and a half long) stating what your general impressions in the drawings, list of directives, and if what your person shares with you about his or her drawing. (Ask permission to your person if not leave it out).Talk about what you have observed during the art therapy. Do not interpret the drawing. For example: I ask Jimmy to draw a House Tree Person and it took him 10 minutes to do utilizing different colors and thinking as he was selecting his combinations of color. Do just a summary. 
For the art instructions: This will be on “8”separate pieces of paper, each done separate. 
1. Draw a picture of a person (D-A-P) using a Pencil—–considered a more controlled medium. 
Directives: ask child (person) to “Draw a picture of a person.” Then ask to: Draw the opposite sex.
2. Draw a picture of a person (D-A-P) using Crayon. 
Directives: (now with the crayon) ask the child person to: “Draw a picture of a person and then to draw the opposite sex”
3. Kinetic family drawing (K-F-D) Developed by Burns and Kaufmann. (Refer to Burns, R.C. and Kaufmann, S.H. (1972). Action, styles, and symbols in Kinetic family drawings: An interpretive Manual. New York: Brunner/Mazel.)
Directives: “Draw a picture of everyone in your family DOING something together.” Make talking and thinking bubbles. 
Direct child (person) to do the following:
(a) Draw the whole body (no stick figures).
(b) Have them sign and date drawing.
(c) Ask them to title drawing (Example: At the beach with my family) 
(d) Ask them permission to draw on paper first when adding the bubbles. If not, use a separate paper. 
(e) Clarify who everyone is in the picture and what is happening
(f) Ask who they want to have speaking/thinking first
(g) Include the animals in the talking if any (“if your dog could talk what would he/she be saying”).
4. Draw a picture of a House- Tree- Person (H-T-P)
5. Draw a picture of the BEST thing that could happen to you
6. Draw a picture of the WORST thing that can happen to you
7. Draw a picture of the FUNNIEST thing that you could ever think of. 
8. Draw three wishes
