Banking risk management: Operational risk

The aim of the assignment is to critically discuss one particular risk management issue for banks, in relation to recent theory and practice. The analysis requires you to make full use of all academic sources including books, periodicals and journal articles. Instructions:
For one particular risk management issue of your choice (RISK CHOSEN IS OPERATIONAL RISK):
a) Critically discuss the most recent models and recommendations relevant to the particular risk management issue under study. This should include a discussion of recent publications from the BIS (Bank of International Settlements) and/or the BCBS (Basel Committee on Banking Supervision).
b) Using one particular bank holding company (BANK CHOSEN IS SOCIETE GENERALE) as a case study, critically analyse their current risk measurement and risk management practice with regards to latest regulation/guidelines.
c) Based on your literature review and case study, critically discuss the advantages and drawbacks of internal risk models, in particular with regards to model validation. To help you in your analysis, see for instance Frésard, Pérignon and Wilhelmsson (2011) “The Pernicious Effects of Contaminated Data in Risk Management”, Journal of Banking and Finance 35(10), 2569-2583.
Presentation:
Your report needs to adopt a business report format and has to include a cover page (with module title and code, explicit title, student name and ID, and word count), executive summary, table of content, introduction section (with brief background and current context) and conclusion section (with recommendations).
The report should also be clearly written in proper English. All sources should be cited and referenced using the Westminster Harvard referencing style (see below for more details).
