Your task is to write a critical response to the points raised in two readings.
This assignment consists of three parts:

Choose any article or chapter from the weekly course readings (including the textbook). Read it carefully. In your written response you should review the article/chapter, noting the points relevant to any aspect of bilingualism and bilingual education.
Then choose one of the supplementary group readings from your reading group. It should relate to the first reading you chose. Read it carefully. In your article response you should discuss what further perspectives your additional chosen reference brings to the issues discussed.
Sum up the assignment with a short set of points you have learned about bilingualism and/or bilingual education from these two readings.

Assignment 1 Guidelines

Identify and summarise the main points raised in both readings as they relate to the course. Do not simply summarise the content but focus on the issues raised and what they mean to you.
Comment on the author’s treatment of the issues. Don’t make Minor criticisms (e.g., complaining about small sample size etc). Look at the author’s position and stance. What do the findings tell you? What does the author ask you to think about?
Discuss how you might apply or respond to the issues discussed in the readings.
