According to utilitarianism, the right thing to do is what brings happiness to most individuals (Mill, p. 863). In his theory, Mills defines the happiness as an increase in pleasure and decrease in pain. The act increased the pleasure in people as they are very grateful over it. They have also reduced the suffering over the lack of accessibility to the health care services. In addition, the discrimination in the insurance companies that they used to get is also reduced.
In the same act, it is legally recognized the young adults who cannot get coverage over their jobs, can stay on their parents’ plans until age 26, which to me is not fair. In this case, most of those who are the age of 26 most are in college. Once a student is covered under the health care act, he/she can never get quality health care. In this case, the living conditions of the students are not catered for in an effective way. This is not fair under all circumstances. Once that student or worker who has not yet gotten a well paying job to satisfy the basic needs, is almost impossible to get access to quality health care.
By the use of the Kant’s deontological theory p. 879, the right thing to do is the action in a fair and universalized manner in which everyone is treated with dignity and never as mere means. This shows respect and moral ethics when considering other people. Application of both principles to potential actions becomes very fair when dealing with very many people. The policy of involving the cover of health care on all the others except the young adults makes the principle be violated. It becomes wrong because the fairness part of the cover is not at all fair to the young adults.
In conclusion, it was a great offer that American president made to the Americans for their success. Once the victims of the chronic diseases have been catered for, it happens to be the best living environment. However, the young adults should also be considered in that policy.
