Evidence
• Identify methods to rate evidence.
Use knowledge sources to evaluate evidence. Review of Syllabus/Course Objectives, Assignments, & Grading
Readings:
1. Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt; Unit 1 , Chapters 4-6
2. Fineout-Overholt, E., O’Mathúna, D., & Kent, B. (2008). How systematic reviews can foster evidence-based clinical decisions. Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing, 5(1), 45-48.
Discussion Question (DQ): (3 Possible Points
In order to make a practice change, there needs to be enough strong evidence. The level of evidence, along with the quality of evidence equals its strength. The rating system (box 1.3) on page 12 of the Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt text assigns a level according to the types of evidence obtained. Using the problem you identified in week 1, present a summary of two peer-reviewed research articles using two different levels of evidence. Discuss how you would critically evaluate this evidence according to its validity, reliability, and applicability in practice.
Initial posting Due by Monday at 11:59 pm and subsequent postings (an additional three different postings to three different peers on three different dates) Due Friday at 11:59 pm. Support your statement with at least two different peer-reviewed articles per different response(s).
DQ part B: Practice writing your PICOT question for assignment 2 using the templates on pg. 31 of the Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt text.
Submit to the designated discussion forum to get feedback from your colleagues. See examples, question guide, and Collaborate tutorial in Week 2.

Readings:
Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt; Unit 3, Chapter 8
Discussion Question (DQ): (3 Possible Points
Clinical practice guidelines include recommendations, information, or strategies that assist practitioners and patients to make healthcare decisions. Choose a nursing practice guideline in your workplace and discuss whether it aligns with an established guideline published by a reliable source. Discuss how data is gathered related to this guideline within your workplace. Examples are on p. 189 & p. 191 in text.
Initial posting Due by Monday at 11:59 pm and subsequent postings (an additional three different postings to three different peers on three different dates) Due by Friday at 11:59 pm.
