Assignment 2 Rubric:
Part 1: 10 points
Depiction of Family Tree or, when genetics unknown use depiction of Table 1-1 (Also found again in Figure 11-1) of leading causes of death related to nutrition in the U.S.(Hypertension, not listed, is at number 13). Where there is a current/past state of health, this is written beneath/next to/above that person in the tree. If hand-drawn, should be neatly written. Use Internet if you would like to Google for ideas for putting a tree together.

Part 2: 25 points – broken down to include the following: discussing what happens if you do not take preventative measures to a pre-existing risk and/or other diseases which could be the result of not taking these measures (I call it the “domino effect”). Do not explain each relative and what they have in part two – this is the purpose of your family tree or some type of depiction for risk in Part 1. Discuss your risk you learned from looking at the tree.

5 points: Discuss risk factors determined from looking at your tree; if you have a healthy tree, remember to discuss more about your risks from table 1-1 since that table indicates those risks related to leading causes of death in the U.S., with number 13 (not listed on table) as hypertension. For more information about risk factors, read Concept of Risk Factors in Ch 11.

5 points: From what you found, discuss risk as related to your health, for example, a higher BMI (you may have to look up those risks associated with what Body Mass Index is, discussed in Chapter 9, by looking at weight circumference and body weight) to see if this, or those in your family have history with obesity/overweight. Other risks to discuss include your diet risks associated with cardiovascular health and cholesterol, hypertension, physical movement, smoking, alcohol. For more information about assessing your risk, see Cardiovascular Diseases, Nutrition & Hypertension, Nutrition & Cancer in Chapter 11

10 points: From the risks found, discuss your diet appropriate for the disease risk: Broken down to include:

5 points: Use SPECIFIC food examples contributing to or preventing various states of health. Increasing fiber is important to discuss for various findings in your tree – be specific as to the kind of fiber and specific examples. Other examples of foods include antioxidants (be specific), saturated fatty foods (be specific), grains (good vs bad). See Chapter 11 to help you in discussing appropriate diet related to your risk

5 points: Discuss modifications of Diet as related to various state of health. Examples include dieting to reduce overall calories, DASH diet, fat, fiber, antioxidants and other strategies for risk reduction. Again, be specific.

5 points: Discuss Domino Effect (this is what I call this – this term is not in the text). How will not taking any measures versus taking action discussed for those items you discuss affect your health in the long term.
