Question 1
Our reading from Muller and Williams talks about a number of different elements of writing, including character, setting, point of view, tone, symbolism, style, and theme. For this forum,
Take the quiz to discover what short story from the textbook you have been assigned to discuss this week;
Choose one of these elements of writing that you feel is important to the story;
Explain one way in which this short story uses this element and why you see that element as an important part of the story
Please, divide your posts into paragraphs for easier reading, and make sure to reference, paraphrase, or quote specific passages from the text to support and illustrate what you say (and cite the passages using MLA citation format). In your responses to your classmates, focus on the content of the post. Do not merely compliment your classmate; add to the discussion about the story. For the responses, you are required to read the initial poster’s story (and prove that to your instructor).
Question 2
I never thought going out to buy ice cream would make such a major impact on so many lives. Just 15 days ago I was like any other Joe Schmo; work, bed, repeat. I was just praying for some kind of break. After a ridiculously stressful day involving elephants, tacos, and stupid people; I just wanted to grab some ice cream and curl up with my favorite book.
I was hitting up the candy aisle grabbing my favorite chocolates on my way to the cold section; when I noticed a strange man holding what looked like a shoe up to his ear. The man had a car battery, a tire pump, bundle of apples, and a bag of whistle in his shopping cart. Weird… but my own dang fault for going to the supermarket at 3 am in the morning.
Here the instructions for question 2
his classroom project will be completed inside the forum space. The goal of this two week project is threefold.
to clarify how literary vocabulary works together to strengthen a story,
to develop classroom cohesion,
and to develop creative thought.
Hopefully, you will also find the project fun. During the next two weeks, we will write a short story together.
You will be responsible for posting twice: once during week two and once during week three. When you post during these weeks is up to you. However, you must continue the story that has started.
There will be one thread, and the thread can be started by anyone in the classroom.
The first poster sets up the story, and then the next poster continues the story. Each time you post, you must utilize some sort of element of fiction within your discussion. Also, please try to follow the Fretag pyramid. Of course, following the pyramid will be difficult – do not worry if the story doesn’t follow the pyramid exactly, and also do not worry if the story seems ‘silly.’ Also, if you post at the same time as another student. The next student poster simply chooses one of the two posts to follow and continues the story from that point.
