The cover letter and resume provided in this paper concerns application for the position of a brand manager. Generally a cover letter provides a general idea about the application being made and gives an overview of the suitability of the candidate to the job position being applied for. A cover letter is attached to the resume and the contents are a summary of the skills that might be relevant to the employer. It is also used to show the potential employers that the applicant is conversant with the organization about the products, employment needs and potential markets for their products. The applicant uses the cover letter to paint a good picture of his/her qualification in brief[1].
According to Montag[2], every resume should be accompanied by a cover letter since “the cover letter and resume are coequal and inseparable components of the total marketing package” (p. 72). With these two components, one can easily secure an interview which is the principle aim while applying for any position. It is on this basis that I have written down my resume and cover letter in pursuit of a position as a Brand Manager with Smithkline Inc.

Work and Professional Experience
I have worked with Apple Inc. as a marketing manager for the computer brands in the Northern Region in 2009. This job helped me familiarize with the marketing of different brands and how to introduce new brands in a market. It is through this job that I acquired skills in communicating with different customers to create demand to potential and existing customers. To be specific, I was able to facilitate in the introduction of two Apple brands in the Northern Region and these have gained popularity among consumers up to date.
To acquaint myself with research, I have conducted a research on customer satisfaction survey, work, environment baseline survey, external customer satisfaction and survey about customers in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, I surveyed training needs about professionals in the industry to identify the required skills for marketing various brands in the pharmaceutical industry. These studies were done in conjunction with a master’s degree student at Oxford University where I was acting as a research assistant. During these surveys, I not only learnt new skills in market research but I also got a chance to exercise my acquired knowledge in SPSS to conduct data analysis.
While working with Apple Inc. I did part time jobs as a tutor at a local business training college where I acquired wealth of knowledge on teaching business related courses and in particular, marketing of different brands in a market. I also acquired skills in leadership because I was able to mobilize students to market various products in the college. Through this exercise I was able to establish partnerships with stakeholders in the business and marketing arena. Last year I achieved an award for being the best student at the school and I attribute this achievement to the commitment and passion I have been having for my career.
At college, I was an intern for five months in the University’s health department, pharmacy section. During my 5 months in this department, I was able to familiarize myself with pharmaceutical products, their prices, distribution and more so I came across the several pharmaceutical industries operating in this region. Other skills acquired during the internship include communication skills with coworkers and clients, drug stock taking and record keeping as well as pricing pharmaceutical products.
I have also been a discussion group leader in college. The opportunity to lead our discussion group has equipped me with skills of working with other people. In addition, I have learnt how to accommodate different personalities and successfully achieve the goals and objectives of a group. I confidently defended my university project in addition to conducting course work presentations in class thus testing and approving my oratory skills and personal confidence.

During my free time I like conducting community services to our surrounding people by mobilizing the youths to become innovative and improve their lives for a better tomorrow. As a trained peer leader, I am instrumental in organizing youths in our locality to combat poverty and unemployment-related ills affecting young people.
