All listening logs are to be turned in at the beginning of the class period as assigned in the course schedule. Any adjustments to due to dates will be announced and forwarded via email and in class. LL#3/ Final Essay Assignment (Due by 5pm on the last Friday of classes)
The purpose of this assignment is to provide proof of how well you have learned to write about music in very specific, intelligible descriptive ways. We will have developed a vocabulary together to help with this because music is so personal that it can be hard to form our opinions into cogent thoughts that are easily understood by large groups of people from diverse backgrounds. Because of this difficulty, we need to practice communicating about music both verbally and in writing.
There are three simple steps to this assignment. 1.) Pick three artists from three different genres. 2.) Pick three songs by each artist, (preferably from the same album) for a total of 9 songs from three different genres by the artist. 3.) Write a traditional listening log entry for all nine songs, a short biography of the artist citing where you found your information and then a comparison of the three artists highlighting the genre differences between them.
The final product should be written with Times New Roman 12 pt. font with 1 inch margins and page numbers in the top, right corner. The document should be at least three pages long with your name, the professor’s name, the name of the course and the date, formatted as mm/dd/yyyy at the top left side of the first page.
