China in the 1950s

China in the 1950s
Paper instructions:
The first review, which is due on February 13, asks you to review one of the five articles discussing China in the 1950s listed in this syllabus. As you choose your first article, consider that this and following articles discussing the next decades of China’s development should all relate to a general theme you are interested in. Examples would be law, or human rights for the Dikötter article, women in Communist China, or political campaigns for the Manning article, and so forth. If you would prefer to examine a theme in your article reviews that does not relate at all to any of the suggested articles, please search for an alternative and show it to your instructor for approval before you review it. Specific instructions for your article reviews will be discussed and subsequently posted during the second week of class. The articles must have been published during or after 2000, preferably after 2005. Reviews of anything other than a scholarly article (for instance reviews of newspaper or popular journal articles, or of book reviews) will not be accepted and receive no credit.
