ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS
Writing the Essay: Read Before You Start
RESEARCH ESSAY
Each student is required to write a 1,000 word essay. The title and subject of your essay must correspond to the topic you selected and I approved for your research project. Then you should begin conducting your research.
To facilitate your work I suggest that you keep detailed notes on all the sources that you consult as you research your paper. That way it will be easier to write the required Annotated Bibliography. Detailed instructions on how to write an Annotated Bibliography are provided under that icon.
Do not include your Annotated Bibliography or any list of references with the Essay. But do cite your sources within the paper itself (e.g. “according to…”).
The essay, properly written using APA or MLA academic format is due on July 20. Late submission will result in a 10 points deduction from the final grade. No essays will be accepted after July 25.
Instructions for Submitting the Essay:
Essays that have less than the required 1,000 words will not be read and will be assigned a grade of F (No points). Papers that have note been submitted through TurnItIn or have a similarity report that indicates more than a 10% rate of plagiarism after quoted material and small matches (10 words or less) are excluded will not be read and will receive a grade of F (No points).
NOTE: Submitting a paper that was already submitted by the student to another professor and/or course is also considered an act of academic dishonesty. Students who are found doing this will also receive an F (no points) for this assignment. Students are expected to write a different, new paper for every class they take.
The essay is worth a maximum of 100 points (10% of your final grade). Points will be deducted for essays that are not written using proper English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Your annotated bibliography is due at the same time. Both the essay and bibliography must be submitted via the Dropboxes before the paper will be read/graded. Grading Criteria: See the grading rubric within the Dropboxes for specifics.

Were you able to use any of the information you found in the article?
Was the information directly related to the topic you were researching?
Are you going to use that information as supporting data in your essay?
