2.Complete the three sections as explained in Theme 4, including: a.The Literature Connection
b.The Modern Connection
c.The Personal Connection
3.Update your References page with the sources you used in this scrapbook entry, particularly in the Modern Connection section, as described in Theme 4
In this entry, you will have three kinds of connections to document in your journey through Defoe’s literary work:
•Literature Connection. This section focuses on Shakespeare’s use of irony as a literary device in Othello.
•Modern Connection. This section focuses on the comparison and contrast of the use of irony in Shakespeare’s Othello with irony in a contemporary work.
•Personal Connection. This section focuses on your own thoughts and responses to Othello.
Follow the directions below for completing each section in your scrapbook.
The Literature Connection
For the Literature Connection section in your scrapbook entry, you will identify the literary device of irony as presented in this module and reflect on how irony is used in Othello.
The Modern Connection
For the Modern Connection section in your scrapbook entry, you are drawing on the knowledge you already have about contemporary texts to help you interpret and analyze Shakespeare’s use of irony in comparison to a contemporary work.
In two to three paragraphs:
•Choose a passage that illustrates irony to analyze in Othello.
•Connect Othello with a contemporary work with which you are familiar. This might be a book, a movie, a television show, a video game, a comic, etc.
•Analyze irony in both Othello and the contemporary work you’ve chosen. The goal is to ask: What do you understand now about irony in relation to Shakespeare’s tragedy and the contemporary text you chose that you did not see before you did this analysis?
The Personal Connection
For this third section in your scrapbook entry, you are thinking about your own thoughts and responses to this novel.
In two to three paragraphs, write about your own thoughts, questions, and/or responses to Othello.
The References Page and APA Formatting
Paraphrase and summarize to present the details from the novel for your connections and only rarely use direct quotes or verbatim passages from the novel. In-text citations continue to be required each time you paraphrase or summarize.
