This is to scope the workload for the final project report. According to the discussion with professor after the presentation, he has some recommendations for us.
Firstly, we have to introduce the Coca-Cola company background, just like what we did in the presentation, secondly, we have to provide information and data of Coca-Cola’s current distribution strategy and current tools that are using to decide the location of their production plant. Thirdly, we go through the SWOT analysis, details to be discussed afterward.
And then, we go through the study of our new product, the Cola-milk, we should first go through the QFD again, to see what are the basic features of our new product. And then we need to have study on feasibility, capability of production this new product, and have a quick market research to support.
Finally, after we go through the current status of Coca-cola, and the cola-milk study, we have to look back to the distribution and location strategy, see if there are new initiatives to be taken for production and distribution of cola-milk. Recommendation is required if the current production and distribution are not fit to the product.
Part 1: Background
We are ok for this part, just keep it in the report.
Part 2: Current strategy of Coca-Cola.
Currently, Coca-cola should have direct distribution channels, we need to state the current strategies Cola has adopted for deliver different types of drinks.
Similar to channeling, we have to find out what kind of tools Cola used to make decision for plant location, such as factor-rating method, center of gravity method. Factors we have to consider will be productivity / wage / cost / transportation / connectivity to distributor / legal problem. Especially legal issue, Professor mentioned we can take New York as example, because New York government has strict regulation on drinks industry.
Part 3: SWOT analysis
Professor thinks we are ok, but after the SWOT analysis, we need to confirm whether Coca-Cola needs an organic or inorganic growth, if inorganic growth is needed, Cola needs to develop the new product internally. Strategically thinking, we can point out the needs of business innovation for Cola, thus, they need a new market, new customer, and to create a new product. That’s why we need to have a product design, and QFD is the tools we used.
Part 4: QFD. Please refer to the attached excel, we have slightly changed the file, professor feels it’s great, please explain clearly on the scale, rating and all the information mentioned in the excel.
Part 5: Review the current distribution and location strategy for fitting with Cola-milk. Such as, extra freezing system may be required, or faster distributing out the milk is needed, and we can consider partnering with McDonald or other parties, to sell the milk, no need to stick with what currently Cola is doing.
Part 6: Conclusion and further recommendation.
We can conclude that our product would be success and this is the phrase 1, after that, we can further strength Cola-milk, such as develop new flavor, or scale up this idea to Cola-mix, use cola to mix if all good drinks, this can be the phrase 2.
