The topic I chose is the relationship between employee motivation and creativity. As a supervisor in my current field, I have always found that motivation and creativity is sometimes lacking.  How do we efficiently motivate employees? One has to understand that human nature is dynamic and the 21st generation workforce cannot be motivated as the 19th or 20th generation. Additionally, one has to understand that a highly-motivated workforce is productive since they are creative. Today’s generation constitutes a labor force that is highly autonomous, experiential, practical, vibrant and self-reliant. Company managers have to employ therefore new motivation methods that will embrace the dynamic nature of the highly techno-literate generation.
To solve this conceptual problem, I will look at the CEO of Pixar Company as well as others. The most important practice involves hiring the right workforce which is qualified. The second involves giving employees the freedom to make their decisions and create an environment where they can share information safely (Catmull, 2008). Thirdly, a business manager ought to empower the company’s creatives by giving them control over idea development. Empowering and motivating the creative minds in a company involves finding other people who will work efficiently with your creatives, helping them to solve problems as well as ensuring healthy dynamics in the company. As the manager, always cultivate trust and confidence in your team that they will achieve their goal within the stipulated time. The idea of this approach is being a laissez-faire leader whose primary objective is creating a strong team and then staying out of their way. My hypothesis is that employee motivation fosters creativity in a company. Hiring the right workforce will help a manager be a laissez-faire leader who employs’ autonomy as a strategic way to enhance creativity.
