• Pick any other argumentative reading from The Little, Brown Reader (it doesn’t have to be assigned on the schedule) and write an essay explaining to what extent do

suitable to analyze for this assignment; many essays in The Little, Brown Reader are narratives, not arguments, and would not work to try to analyze for this

by the article you choose, or mostly disagree with points made by the article you choose. No matter what opinion you have, please be specific about it in your thesis,
explaining what you agree with or disagree with.

-An Introduction with a hook such as an interesting question. The Intro should move from general to specific, establishing appropriate context. (1-2 paragraphs)
–A Thesis that is clear, focused, and narrowed. It needs to be one to two sentences in length. Your thesis for this essay should answer the question you have chosen
and explain why you feel the way you do. Your thesis should be placed at the end of your Introduction.
–At least 3-4 body paragraphs that support your opinion in your thesis.
–Each body paragraph should have a main point.
–Each of these paragraphs should have ideas that naturally follow from the preceding paragraphs and sentences, avoiding a formula.
–These paragraphs should include personal stories to support your ideas and / or research that you do. Give at least 2 detailed personal stories to support your point
and / or at least two credible research sources. If you include personal stories, explain the 5 W’s and the H–who, what, when, where, why, and how—in relation to the
story that you are telling.
–If you decide to include personal stories, the stories might also contain sensory detail and / or dialogue so that the reader feels like he or she is present in the
story that you describe. You may also wish to include metaphors and similes to make your story come alive.
–Within the body paragraphs, you should also give 2 quotes or paraphrases from the reading assigned for class, including MLA citations for the reading.
–A conclusion that does not simply repeat your thesis. The conclusion can rephrase your thesis but it also should explain why your topic is important to American
society today. What light does it shed on gender roles in America today? What light does it shed on societal trends in marriage? Your conclusion should move from
specific to general.
–A Works Cited Page that includes the reading(s) you quote from
