Dear EDC 314 Students,
Please see the important information/outline below regarding the Curriculum Comparison Report
Curriculum Comparison Report
(30 points)
Description: Compare at least 2 ECE curriculum models/approaches by discussing several best practice and
dimensions of NAEYC in a written report. You will provide an introduction, background information and theories that
support or anchor each ECE curriculum model, consider and discuss strengths and challenges, and compare
similarities and differences and a conclusion. Through NAEYC principles, standards and DAP, the report provides
clear examples and specific details of each curriculum for comparison. This is an individual assignment. It is worth 30
points/marks.
Part 1: Introduction
– Begin with a definition of what is curriculum? What is ECE curriculum all about? Describe or define what an ECE
Curriculum model is. What are the two curriculum models that you have chosen.
– Why have you chosen these two models to compare and contrast?
-Address if these curriculum models are DAP, adhere to NAEYC Standards, principles,
– Discuss which domains do these models support a child’s development. How do they support the 3 domains of
development etc.
-What is the most unique feature about each of the curriculum models chosen? What will you do and discuss in this
report?
Part 2: Background and Theoretical Perspectives
-Provide some background information about the founders, when it was founded etc., why it is founded or
development.
-Provide some details about where programs are located in the world that are using this model(s), how are they using
it, why. Is it internationally used? What ages…stages is this curriculum appropriate for? Elaborate more about what is
a unique feature about each curriculum model? How or why is it unique?
-Choose at least 3 particular child development theories/theorists for the curriculum models as appropriate. The
theories/theorists that you discuss must be relevant to that particular model. One model may have 2 theories and the
other may have 1. Make sure you notate which model belongs to which theory/theorist ex. Erikson’s, Psycho-Social

Part 3: NAEYC Standards, Principles and DAP
-Discuss why it is important for Early Childhood Programs to use ECE Models that implement and adhere to NAEYC
standards, principles and DAP
– You must write about Curriculum- NAEYC Standard # 2 and Play-NAEYC Principle #10. Choose and write about 2
additional NAEYC Standards, 2 additional NAEYC Principles and 3 DAP that you will do a comparison of in this report.
You will have a total of 3 for standards, principles and DAP.
-You will explain your main points first in a brief essay before the diagrams. Discuss 3 strengths, 3 challenges, 3
similarities and 3 differences. Think of challenges like “weaknesses” or areas in which this curriculum is not so strong
or improvement is needed.
– For example: I will compare Waldorf and Montessori curriculum models.
Play is an NAEYC Principle #10, (what are strengths and challenges for each model—then you will compare them in
similarities vs. differences)
Play based activities and experiences are important in each of the curriculums, however Waldorf curriculum inspires
young children to have more play based opportunities. Strengths can be seen in both curricula. Play looks like _______
in the Waldorf curriculum… and play looks like ______ in Montessori curriculum. There are also challenges with
regards to play when looking at Waldorf curriculum, they are _________ There challenges with regards to play in
Montessori curriculum are _______
Regarding play, I will compare the two models: Both Waldorf and Montessori are similar in this way __________
However, Waldorf and Montessori are very different in this way ________
Curriculum is the NAEYC Standard #2, (what are strengths and challenges for each model—then you will compare
them in similarities vs. differences, do the same as above)
DAP is noted below ( Note: you choose the 3 Developmentally appropriate practices that you wish to report on)
Part 4: A Comparison of NAEYC Standards, Principles and DAP
-After your essay, you will summarize your evaluation and comparison in graphically organized way:
a) Strengths and Challenges in a chart/table format (at least 3; one in each area)
b) Similarities and Differences in a Venn diagram format (at least 3; one from each area)
