Standard 1 : Learner Development
Artifact: Classroom observations that feature ways to help children develop in more than one way ( 5 grade math class)
Explanation:  :

1(a) The teacher regularly assesses individual and group performance in order to design and modify instruction to meet learners’ needs in each area of development (cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical) and scaffolds the next level of development.

I believe that classroom observation   is relevant to this standard because classroom observations through teacher-student interactions play a significant role in learner development. Creating favorable learning conditions increases the number of children willing to interact with teachers.
The artifact that I chose for this standard is a reflection of a classroom observation  that I completed last week. I observed  5 grade math class, and this class have only 18 students, but  each student  need extra help and support while learning math. During to classroom activity the teacher created some  heterogeneous groups where I realized that  some students would need that extra help and support from their peers. I have learned that  from this classroom observation that learners develop in many different ways.

Standards 2: Learning differences
Artifact: Book Critique

2(f) The teacher accesses resources, supports, and specialized assistance and services to meet particular learning differences or needs.

I believe that the children’s book critique  is relevant to this standard because I am including this assignment to show that I understand that multicultural differences are in children’s books.  It is important to include diverse cultures and communities within the classroom.  I must understand that every student comes with their own personal story that includes everything from from their cultural heritage to the home environment in which they live. For this assignment I made a PowerPoint about two picture books that are multicultural.  I wrote a summary of each book, positive and negative factors, the activities that the make and females are doing in the story, and why I feel it is multicultural.  I also have chosen to include my Children’s Book Critique.

Standard 3: Learning Environments
Artifact: Classroom management
3(j) The teacher knows how to help learners work productively and cooperatively with each other to achieve learning goals.
I believe that the classroom management is relevant to this standard because rules, routines, and community building activities very fitting of this standard. The environment of one’s classroom is vital for both the students and the teacher. The environment helps contribute to the students’ learning and the overall comfort and feel of the classroom. This artifact includes my beliefs about education , what student need to do , and what teachers must do . I feel that this is an excellent artifact to have because it describes my beliefs as an educator, and outlines how I will use my beliefs to create the best learning environment possible for my students.

Standard  6 – Assessment
Artifact: Small and Large group assessment (6)

6(r) the teacher is responsible for the alignment of assessments and instructions in accordance with the goals of learning .

I believe that the Lesson Plan is relevant to this standard as it is an important way of establishing whether or not the set goals have been reached in terms of the students having learned the required assessment that had been set in each assessment. Using assessment has taught me how to better help my students in their own learning and growth as a student. Assessments throughout my lessons have also helped me in reflective thinking about my students and their learning. I believe that a child should be assessed at regular intervals throughout the academic year to determine whether or not the students understand the material of the course. This will enable me to take curative measures that will help the students understand better the sections of the course that they show poor understanding in. Good performance in assessments helps motivate the students to want to learn more and is a good way to approve the teacher’s strategies.

Standard 7- Planning for Instruction
Artifact: Station 1-4 (7)

7(a) The teacher individually and collaboratively selects and creates learning experiences that are appropriate for curriculum goals and content standards, and are relevant to learners.
For this standard, my artifacts were three stations that I used in my class. I believe that these artifacts are relevant to this standard as they help in planning for the instruction as well as to align the learning with lesson plan and learning. Students are able to learn multiple things in one class period by using stations designed with multiple themes and sets of activities. Further, stations also encourage active interaction among students and the teacher. Different themes of the stations require the students to perform different tasks individually, in small teams or with the help of the teacher. Such an environment help the teachers in setting direction of further learning. In this Lesson Plan, the activities required the students to learn arithmetic skills in mathematics without using calculators. On each of the stations, students were provided with different material that included blocks, stationary, miniatures to perform various calculations. It was encouraging to see students imparting peer to peer tutoring and collaboration. The plan became even more interesting as students discussed the things that they would like to learn in the future.

standard 8- Instructional Strategies
Artifact: Lesson Plan ( standard 8)
8(j) the teacher acknowledges all cognitive processes that have an association with various kinds of learning such as critical and creative thinking.
I believe that the Lesson Plan is relevant to this standard as it is an organized guide for a lesson. The lesson plan gives the goal that a particular lesson aims to achieve. The lesson plan generally has three sections. The first section is the setting of the goal itself. This goal is set in terms of what the students are expected to have learned by the end of that particular lesson. The Lesson Plan also entails the strategy that the teacher will follow in order to reach this goal. The well laid out strategies that are supposed to be followed in order to achieve this goal are important because they make sure that I cover all the important aspects of a lesson and at the same time does not lose focus of the ultimate goal of the lesson. Finally, the Lesson Plan includes a method of evaluation of whether or not the set goal was achieved. I understand that creating a Lesson Plan will also help the achievement of the yearly goal of the timely learning of lessons and the coverage of the syllabus.

Reflection 6,7,and 8: In a few paragraphs, please reflect on your understanding of the relationship between effective teaching and teacher knowledge of:

use of a variety of strategies to engage young adolescents in deep understanding of content, connections among disciplines and how to apply their learning.

I believe that the Teacher Interview is relevant to this standard because this artifact shows my growth and development as a teacher because this is the first experience that I have had the opportunity to participate in professional development. Given the response from the interview , it is evident that she has a lot to offer to her students and its help to me learn about school and system . She has a wide experience in the field of teaching. I believe learning is an ongoing process for both students and teachers. I am still learning every day how can be the best teacher in the school. This Interview helps to me understand that teachers always need to seek opportunities to grow professionally. I also learned some valuable method and activities from interviewing , and I plan to do in my own classroom in the future . A good teacher should be professional and ethical. Teacher interviews help in enhancing these two essential attributes that they should possess. As a result, this artifact helps the teacher to grow professionally and be able to seek opportunities relevant in the teaching field.

Artifacts: Parents-Teacher Conference
Explanation:

10(n) The teacher knows how to work with other adults and has developed skills in collaborative interaction appropriate for both face-to-face and virtual contexts.
I believe that Parents – Teacher Conference  is relevant to this standard because  it shows how teachers collaborate with students’ families in the best interest of the child and how they personally take responsibility for student learning. Attending parent -teacher conferences is a way to be involved and help my child succeed, and I attended last week. A parent – teacher conference is a great opportunity to learn how to help our kids do their best in school. During to my A parent -teacher conference, we will discuss our child’s progress in school with my child’s teacher. I understand that Parent -teacher conference are important because together , parent -teacher can help to child have a great school year by incorporating collaborative skills into the conference experience.  Holding parent-teachers conferences is the epitome of collaboration and real leadership in education. During these meetings, teachers and parents discuss issues that are beyond students’ comprehension.
