RES Course Project 1
In this project, you will learn how to model wind turbines. The project will be based on PSCAD software simulation. The project is described as follows:
Assume two wind generators are connected in parallel to a bus and supply power to a load demand. The rated power of the first generator is 2 MW, and the rated power of the second generator is 2.5 MW. You need to build the overall system model including the wind turbines, wind driven generators, and load demand. To maintain the power balance in the simulation, the load demand is the sum of the wind power outputs. Demonstrate the active power output curve with respect to the wind speed in the steady state. You can specicy different wind speeds to get the curve. You need to show the curve of each generator as well as the total power output curve. For other associated parameters, you can choose any reasonable parameters you want. Studying the example file wind_indmac will be useful to completing this project.
PSCAD 4.5 has been installed in two of the CEAS labs: EMS E285 and E384. The application can be accessed from the Start menu, following the path PSCAD->PSCAD X4->PSCAD v45 (non-elevated). The users will have to go through a short procedure to setup the license manager when they run the app for the first time. If the user later on uses another computer in the lab, then they will again be asked to repeat the procedure because the information is stored locally on the machine, and not shared on the network. The other PDF document outlines the step-by-step procedure.
The app installs a set of examples in the Windows users common area. The examples in the location S:PSCAD4.5examplesWindFarm are very useful for our project, especially wind_indmac. And you can build your own simulation files based on them.
In the project report, show your work step by step and all the related interfaces and data should be given and explained in detail.
