You are a trainee IT security auditor working for AuditSec consultants. Stanley speaks to you informally about this audit job and you agree that you will attempt it; he then, formally, sends you the following documents:-

An Audit Job Allocation form, to inform you of the job you have agreed to undertake,

A copy of the CMS Student Technical Support Lab Rules that Stanley wants you to use.

Read these attached documents and familiarise yourself with the scenario.

Dear Mr Widget,
The School of Computing & Information Systems (CIS) requires you to undertake a security audit of computing resources used by students in the computing laboratories on the first floor of the King William Building (including the Mac lab). In following our adherence to ISO27002 controls, and especially section 8.1.3 Acceptable Use of Assets, we are requesting an audit to assess the extent of compliance of the university students to the official Student Technical Support Lab Rules. These rules are made available on the Student Intranet but I enclose a copy of the Lab Rules showing those rules that I would like you to work with.
However, the university has specified two constraints that must be adhered to by all of your participating fieldwork auditors. Constraint 1 is that auditors must not converse either verbally or in writing with any member of the university staff of any grade. Constraint 2 is that auditors must approach from a point of view consistent with that of an average (not highly technical) student. Consequently, the audit need not investigate at the operating systems level nor the actual network servers themselves. In fact, to be as authentic as possible and not cause alarm or disruption, I will arrange for your audit team to be temporarily given student status so that their work will not alert university staff in any way.
I look forward to receiving your audit report as agreed.
Yours Sincerely,
Liam Clancy
